Get Lost, Then Found

There is much increased travel throughout the world because of increase technology and curiosity. Maps are key to navigating a space that a person is unfamiliar with. But sometimes the little red dot on the map doesn’t actually tell the person where they are or help them to find a destination. That’s where wayfinding comes in to save a travellers day.

What is Wayfinding?


Wayfinding has the function to inform people of the surroundings in the (unfamiliar) build environment, it is important to show information at strategic points to guide people into the right directions. Complex structures in the build environment are interpreted and stored by the human memory.

Why do we get lost?

Getting Lost

In his 2010 book, Why People Get Lost, neuroscientist Paul Dudchenko considers the cognitive processes involved in wayfinding and how these processes can get disrupted. From rats running through mazes to expert navigators scaling mountains, he argues that individuals get lost when their brain’s compass becomes disoriented.
